The Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land, Edo and Delta States, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola Akinola, has tasked members of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) to use their influence in promoting peace and harmony among all religious organisations in Yoruba land and in Nigeria in general.
He gave the charge in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Saturday, while hosting members of the MSSN, University of Ibadan Branch who paid him a courtesy visit as part of activities marking their Orientation Week. While urging the MSSN members to be good ambassadors of Islam within their academic environment and wherever they may find themselves, Akinola expressed his determination to support the Muslim students at all times, both morally and financially.
The Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land who was turbaned last December following the transition of his immediate predecessor, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola Alao, specifically commended the initiative of the MSSN leaders who have continued to organise orientation programmes for new Muslim intakes into the University of Ibadan, praying that they would also grow to become more relevant in the Islamic world.
“I believe this kind of programme will sustain and make you feel at home even in the university environment that is now faced by many vices,” the Islamic leader remarked.
The leader of the visiting team, Amir Adelakun Yusuff, a 300-Level Geology student, had earlier stated that the organisation’s Orientation Week was aimed at familiarising newly-matriculated Muslim students with Islamic leaders and mentors in the neighbourhood.
