The Provost of the College of Medicine, Dr (Mrs.) F.O Enahoro, speaking at the event told the inductees that the college was proud to have trained them and asked them to consolidate on the training they have got by specialising.
She noted that medical profession is evolving at a fast rate with few chances for non-specialist doctors.
According to her, the oath taking ceremony was significant in many ways as it symbolically showed their acceptance into the medical profession.
Enahoro advised them to be guided by the oath they are going to swear to in their practice and treat their patients with empathy by seeing them as human beings and not bags of bones with diseases or mere cases.
She said “Looking at the number of years you have spent in your undergraduate training and the investments your parents have invested in you; please do not let it be wasted by unprofessional misconduct because the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) will not spare you for medical malpractice.”
She later read the rules guiding the medical practice in Nigeria, taught the doctors examinations required of them to write before becoming specialist doctors and the inductees later swore to the physicians oath 1 and 2 and received their practicing license.
The induction ceremony was graced by Mr F.A Ojo-Maliki, Registrar AAU; Dr Ute Inegbenebor, Acting Dean of Basic Medical Sciences; Chief A.E Ogbejiele, Secretary of AAU College of Medicine, traditional rulers, parents and others.
