Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd) has written a book entitled ‘Vindication of the General,’ on his role during the regime of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

He said this when he received Deputy Senate Leader Bala Ibn Na’Allah, who paid him a condolence visit recently in Zuru, Kebbi State, over the death of a relation.

The book, Bamaiyi said, would reveal what really happened to him during his active service inside and outside government.

Bamaiyi was charged in 1999 with the attempted murder of the publisher of the Guardian newspaper, Alex Ibru, and is considered one of the henchmen of the 1993-1998 Abacha regime.

He was arrested in October and detained at a military barracks, from where he was taken to Lagos to face trial alongside several others. He was however discharged and acquitted on April 2, 2008 after nine years in detention.

Late Habila Andrew Nama, the relation of Bamaiyi who died in Port Harcourt after a protective illness, is survived by a wife and three children.
