The chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, has donated two speed boats to two riverine communities of Kurege and Pachuwa of the council.
Ajiya, while handing over the speed boats at the council secretariat on Saturday, said they were procured to ease movement of the people from the two riverine communities to Abaji town.
He said there were some communities that had difficulty reaching the town because of river Gurara, noting that crossing the river by canoe was riskier, hence the need to procure the boats.
The chairman said the donation of the speed boats would enhance the people’s transportation of their farm produce to the market in Abaji.
“And I want to also assure my people of the riverine communities that we are still making efforts to convince the FCT administration about the need to construct a bridge across River Gurara,“ he said.
Also speaking, the APC ward chairman of Alu- Mamagi ward in the area, Awwal Adamu, commended the council chairman for donating the speed boats to the riverine communities.
He said the boats would reduce the hardship the people of the communities faced whenever they were crossing River Gurara to Abaji town, adding that it was also a big relief to farmers who would now easily transport their crops to the market in Abaji.
Adamu appealed to the council chairman to put more pressure on the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, on the need to expedite action on the commencement of construction of a bridge across the river before the end of this year.
