Abaji chairman’s brother, 4 others kidnapped

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a younger brother of the incumbent chairman of Abaji Area Council, Awwal Ajiya.

A member of the victim’s family, who preferred anonymity, said the incident happened around 6:am after the chairman’s younger brother boarded a commercial vehicle in Abaji to Yangoji, Kwali Area Council.

He said the victim joined four other passengers in a commercial car going to Yangoji when some gunmen attacked the vehicle near Kamadi village, on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

He added that the family has been able to establish contact with the kidnappers but said the kidnappers are yet to name a ransom.

“Actually there was a conversation with the victim and the kidnappers but they warned that nobody should call them again until it’s convenient for them to call, and they quickly switched off the phone,” he said.

The chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, confirmed the kidnapping of his younger brother via telephone to our reporter.

“We pray that God will bring an end to this kind of incidents,” he said.
