The abductors of the Vice Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Mohammed Rizoma, have demanded for a N3 million ransom.

The vice chairman, his son, Yakubu Mohammed, and his driver, Husaini Peter, were kidnapped by gunmen on Monday night on the Lambata-Izom Road, near Suleja in Niger State.

A relative of the vice chairman told our reporter yesterday that the kidnapers made the demand through one of the council chairman’s aides.

He said the kidnappers phoned the aide on Wednesday evening to place their demand.

“In fact, it was around 6:00pm when one of the chairman’s aides phoned me that the kidnappers called him and were demanding for N3m,” he said.

He added that, “The vice chairman’s wife came to my house to find out the situation. She was crying and looked depressed.”

When contacted, the Niger State Police spokesman, DSP Mohammed Abubakar Dan-Inna, said the police were not aware of any negotiation with the kidnappers, but that the police were making efforts to ensure that the vice chairman and the two others were released unhurt.

DSP Dan-Inna told our reporter on the telephone that, “I believe you know it is the policy of the police not to engage in any form of negotiation with kidnappers. We have since swung into action to ensure that the victims are all rescued alive.”
