A Catholic priest, Reverend Father Isaac Agabi, who was abducted on Monday in Edo State, has regained his freedom after reportedly escaping from his abductors.

It was gathered that the priest escaped in the early hours of Tuesday, when the kidnappers were asleep.

The Director of Communication, Catholic Diocese of Auchi-Igarra, Fr. Peter Egielewa, said no ransom was paid to secure his freedom.

“No ransom was paid. He actually escaped in the night when the kidnappers were asleep. He came out of the bush and was able to come home, no ransom was paid​,” said.

Spokesman of the police in the, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, could not be reached for comments, as calls made to his phone were not answered.

Meanwhile, an alleged leader of the kidnappers that abducted the priest has been reportedly nabbed by youths of Ikpeshi, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the State.

A source from Ikpeshi, who did not want his name in print, said the suspected abductor was beaten to coma by the youths.

It would be recalled that Rev Father Agabi, in charge of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ikpeshi, in Akoko-Edo LGA, was kidnapped along Auchi-Igarra road while on his way back to the parish.
