A retired director of health in Katsina State has been released by his abductors 24 hours after paying N1.5 million ransom.

Daily Trust gathered from close family associates that upon his release, Salisu Runka was rushed to Dutsinma General Hospital for medical attention.

It was gathered that Runka, a retiree of Safana local government, was abducted while working on his farm along Runka-Gora junction in the presence of some of his children who later rushed to town to inform their mother, who later reported the matter to the police.

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Gambo Isah, while confirming the incident, however, said the command wasn’t aware of any ransom payment as the family did not disclose that information to them.

He said the victim was picked up by police while he was wandering in the forest.
