Abia: Agro-allied industries to be built in all LGAs

The governor disclosed that works were already in advanced stages  in such agro-allied  industries in six LGAs, which according to him, would serve as the pilot phase of the programme

Agro-allied industries are to be built in the 17 local government areas of Abia to enhance the state government’s robust agricultural revolution.

This plan was unveiled by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in Umuahia on Wednesday when he hosted the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe, who led the members of the presidential visitation panel of the school on a courtesy call on the governor.

The governor disclosed that works were already in advanced stages  in such agro-allied  industries in six LGAs, which according to him, would serve as the pilot phase of the programme.

Ikpeazu noted that unemployment, especially among women and youth would be effectively tackled through the agro-industrial initiative, adding that despite small land mass, Abia was out to lead in agricultural outputs.

“We are focusing on cassava processing, rice milling and cashew production and in a short while, you will see agro-allied industries in various local government areas,” Ikpeazu said.

Prof Maduebibisi Iwe promised that his school was ready to help the state government boost its internally generated revenue through agriculture.
