Abia First lady seeks end to obnoxious laws against widows, PWDs
The bills are the Child Right Law of Abia State
Abia State First lady, Dr Nkechi Ikpeazu, has called on Abia State House of Assembly to review the Child Rights Law passed in 2006.
She also requested that the house give attention to the Widows and Persons with disabilities, PWDs.

Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu stated this when she led some members of civil society organisations on an advocacy visit to the state lawmakers in Umuahia over ongoing legislative work on several bills that affect the vulnerable people.
The bills are the Child Right Law of Abia State, the Obnoxious Widowhood Practices Bill and the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Bill 2018. Of the three items, two bills are fresh ones yet to be passed by the house while the Child Rights Act was passed in 2006 and is due for a review to keep it up to date with recent realities and challenges of protecting the Nigerian child in the face of new developments in society.
Addressing the lawmakers, Mrs Ikpeazu who was given the rare privilege of addressing the state house of assembly during plenary, urged the lawmakers to respond quickly to the needs of citizens by making laws that promote positive societal changes.
