The awardees were conferred with honorary degrees at the university’s 3rd special convocation ceremony held last Saturday.
Onu was conferred with the honorary degree of doctor of letters, Honoris Causa, while Eze Nwachukwu Okere was awarded doctorate degree in Business Administration (Honoris Causa).
In his address, the Chancellor of Abia State University, Francis Orji, congratulated the awardees and wished them success in their endeavours.
He appealed to well meaning Abians and Nigerians alike to support the government in ensuring quality education.
“Government alone cannot adequately fund education, especially in the light of economic situation of Nigeria. I therefore appeal to well meaning Nigerians to partner with the university through provisions of funds and facilities so that quality education will be given to our children.”
The pro-chancellor, Senator Ike O.S. Nwachukwu, expressed gratitude to Dr Uche Ogah for building and donating a 600-seater ultra-modern auditorium to the university.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Uche Ogah, President of Masters Energy, promised automatic employment to the best graduating student in the department of accountancy and the overall best graduating student of the institution.
He said this gesture will be repeated annually.
The Governor of Abia State, Governor Theodore Orji, represented by his Deputy, Emeka Ananaba, reiterated the commitment of the government to improve standard of education in the state.
