The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 88 boxers took part in the three-day tournament which featured different weight categories.
Abiodun, 18, who is also an indigene of Ogun, was a silver medalist in the Bantamweight category at the 16th National Sports Festival held in Kaduna early this year.
Presenting the trophy to him, the donor and President of Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, Mr Isaiah Nzoogu, commended Abiodun for displaying “impressive boxing qualities’’.
The National Boxing Coach, Mr Obisia Nwankpa, told NAN that winners and runners-up in each of the 11 weight categories would be invited to the national camp.
The camp, according to him, would open very soon to prepare the boxers for the World Boxing Championship slated for Italy in September.
A former African and Commonwealth Middleweight champion, Jerry Okorodudu, also described the standard exhibited by the boxers at the trials as satisfactory.
“I am impressed with the standard of the boxers and I am sure they will go places,’’ Okorodudu told NAN in an interview.
