Malam Sharama who made the call in an interview with Kanem Trust disclosed that the dealers usually sold dozens of cows whose proceeds ran into millions of naira on daily basis but lamented that there were no financial institutions in Banki to keep their money for safety.

Banki is a thriving business district at the Nigeria-Cameroon border in Borno State and many businesses are being carried out there every day.

According to Sharama, “despite the fact that Banki town is famous in commercial activities coupled with its strategic location as entry points to Cameroon and Chad , banks have deserted the area, we are in a serious dilemma on the security of our money. We are therefore calling the banks to establish branches so that we can have guaranty of the safety of our money”.     

The chairman also appealed to Borno State government to fence the cattle market and provide more security personnel to protect the lives and properties of the people.

Similarly, he stressed the need for the government to provide drinking water for both human and animal consumption at the market square, adding that acute shortage of water in the area had affected the health of some of the livestock.
