Speaking exclusively to Daily Trust on the sideline of the National Executive Council meeting, Dr Princess Henrietta Ogan, the national president said: “Already the portal is about 90 percent completed and we will take off in August with a mandate for a sensitization drive starting from Zaria which will be internet based such that you can reach us from any part of the world.”
Ogan also said: “We are hoping that from the first graduated students of the institution to the current graduates, everyone comes on board to contribute their quota. The essence is to contribute towards the development of the university,” she said.
According to her, the choice of the internet based platform is to bring on board people who have never found a convenient means of contributing to the system, adding that the alumni has initiated projects that will reduce the expenses of the university and generate funds for it (university).
She said: “The university spends so much on PHCN but if we are able to use the resources we have to produce alternative energy, it will of course free up funds which the university can channel into other areas.
“The by-products of these biogas projects will produce a cleaner environment and even organic manure because the entire Kaduna community is known for farming. The university has a renewable energy centre and it is being incorporated, we hope that by this time next year it will be up and running,” she said.
