The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUST), China, and the UNESCO International Centre for Higher Education Innovation have signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on exchange of scientific materials, publications, information, as well as dual doctoral degree programmes.
The MoU also covers exchange of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty staff and post-doctoral researchers, joint research, as well as any other form of cooperation necessary.
In a statement, the Director, Public Affairs of ABU, Dr. Ismail Shehu, said each of the collaborations would be further discussed by the parties involved and that a separate agreement or an addendum to the MoU was necessary to initiate each of the programmes.
The Vice Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, signed the MoU on behalf of ABU while Prof. Li Ming and Dr. Xu Li endorsed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese university and and UNESCO education centre respectively.
The MoU, according to the statement, was facilitated by Huawei Technologies in recognition of the impressive relationship they had established with ABU as a result of the HAINA programme anchored by ABU’s Director of the Institute of Computing and ICT, Prof. M B Mu’azu.
The statement also noted that a team from SUST and the UNESCO centre, led by Li Xue, Programme Officer, African Programme Office, would visit ABU from June 18 to 20, 2019.

Prof. Ibrahim Garba was accompanied on the tour of SUST by Prof. M B Mu’azu; Engr. B H Sani; Dr. B O Sadiq of the Department of Computer Engineering, Aminu Nasir Lawal of ICICT and Mr. An Quingyan of Huawei Nigeria.
