The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has commenced the training of 40 youths from three states of the North-west on modern animal fattening and sorghum cultivation.

The Director of IAR, Professor Ibrahim Umar Abubakar, made this known during the opening ceremony of the training, saying the exercise was part of the institute’s youth empowerment programme in collaboration with some National Assembly members from the three states.

He added that “the youths were selected from three states of Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi. They were brought here to be given the necessary skills on livestock fattening and sorghum production. It is a constituency allowance project given to these three states. The focus of the Federal Government now is to empower youths by creating more job opportunities.  We want these youths to be employers of labour.”

Professor Shukurat Adunni Sanni, Assistant Director, Extension, Monitoring and Evaluation said the participants will through the training be skilful on animal fattening, which will give them opportunity to generate income.
