The Department of Hausa Language Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has organized a seminar in honour of Hausa singer, Dauda Kabutu, popularly known as Rarara, for his contribution to modern music.
The event, which was held at the popular Kontagora Square, was attended by renowned professors across the country including Professor Dalhatu Muhammad, Professor A. K. Adamu, Profesor Haruna Abdullahi and Dr. Bello Bala.
One of the speakers at the event, Professor Abdullahi Birniwa, said Rarara has contributed to modern Hausa music through his artistic vision. Rarara’s political song titled ‘Masu gudu su gudu’ became a hit and was successfully used in galvanizing support in the previous elections.
He said famous singers such as Narambada, Mamman Shata as well as Rarara have used their voices to transform societies.
Professor Muhammad Lawal Aminu, who spoke on the importance of Hausa language and its contribution to development, said the seminar was meant to raise awareness on the importance of Hausa language in communication.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba said the university will support any effort that contributes to the promotion of culture.
