Nurses at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, Wednesday, staged a peaceful protest where they blamed some “cabals” for the incessant industrial actions by workers unions under the federal ministry of health.

Chairman of the nurses, Comrade Mrs. Oluyori Dupe, said despite following all legal channels to address the nurses grievances, the “cabals” have refused to implement government circulars and obey court others.

Comrade Dupe added; “our grievances include decay of infrastructure in federal government-owned hospitals, inadequate manpower, dearth of highly skilled nurses, discriminatory implementation of promotions, non-payment of promotion areas and teaching allowance, as well as uniform allowance among others.

“For the fact these cabals have constituted themselves as alternative government, they decide which government circulars to implement. They disobey and disregard court judgments.

 We are therefore calling on the President, the Senate, House of Representatives and the good People of Nigeria to prevail on the federal ministry of health and its allies in the federal ministry of labour, to do the needful and spare the country of another round of industrial crisis.”

She called on the President to beam his anti-corruption searchlight on the FMOH and its parastatals with emphasis on how monies allocated to them were disbursed.

 

She said a ministry that harboured a fake doctor for over eight years calls for a “forensic” review of its activities.
