Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is working toward commencing academic and research programme in Railway Engineering, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba, has said.

He said this in Zaria on Monday in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Kabir Bala, during the matriculation of post-graduate students for the 2017/2018 academic year.

Presently, no Nigerian university offers Railway Engineering and ABU is said to have raised and sent a team to China for engagement with partner institutions.

The vice chancellor also said ABU would migrate to a post-graduate university through the rapid improvement and modernisation of its postgraduate studies.

“Mentoring of younger tertiary educational institutions is one of the default responsibilities of ABU, which must be discharged in order to generate the required manpower that would promote and ensure competitiveness,” he said.
