ABU, UK varsity to organise workshop for women in construction

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria-Kaduna, Nigeria, and the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, United Kingdom (UK) have concluded plans to organise a one-day training workshop for women graduates in construction.
In a statement on Wednesday by the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, ABU, the event will be held in the institution on Tuesday.
It said the tworkshop was part of the research project jointly handled by universities which focused on “strengthening pathways into employment for women graduates from further and higher education.”
The research partnership, titled: “ARe-SuRe–Gender Diversification of Construction Industry Workfare: Attracting, Supporting, and Retaining Women Graduates”, is supported by a gender equality partnership grant under the British Council’s Going Global Partnership programme of the British Council.

Prof Kulomri Jipato Adogbo of the Department of Quantity Surveying, Faculty of Environmental Design, ABU, Zaria, secured the Gender Equality Partnerships grant along with a UK partner in the programme, Dr Ernest Effah Ameyaw, of the University of Northumbria.
Adogbo, whose research interests include construction project management, gender studies on women in construction, as well as construction contracts and procurement, is the Nigerian lead in the research project.
The Nigerian collaborators in the project include the Lead, Prof Kulomri Jipato Adogbo, ABU; Deputy Lead, Prof Joy Joshua Maina, ABU; and Associated Partner, the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) Foundation.
