Abuja derby set to kick off 2025 NLO U19 youth league season

All is set for the highly anticipated kick-off of the 2025 Nationwide League One (NLO) U19 Youth League, with the curtain-raiser featuring a thrilling ‘Abuja Derby’ between G Medix FC and Olympic Hybrid FC.

The opening match will take place at the Hovel Prime Stadium in Nyanya, Abuja, on Friday, August 8, 2025.

This year’s edition of the NLO U19 Youth League will span 16 venues across the country, providing a crucial stage for Nigeria’s emerging football talents to shine and progress in their careers.

Fans around Mopol Junction and the wider Nyanya area are invited to witness what promises to be a captivating grassroots football spectacle. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM.

Olushola Ogunnowo, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the NLO, expressed high expectations for the youth competition and the season opener in Abuja.

“The NLO Youth League launches on Friday, August 8, in Abuja, featuring G Medix FC against Olympic Hybrid FC. This not only marks the league’s opening game, but we expect nothing less than exciting football in Nyanya,” Ogunnowo stated.

He also emphasized the league’s commitment to structure, discipline, and integrity.

“We demand to see well-organised and competitive matches from all clubs participating in the Youth League. The clubs have adhered to directives from the secretariat, but there remains room for improvement. Any actions that jeopardise the integrity of the game will not be tolerated,” he warned.
