Abuja, the Nation’s capital will play host to the 24th annual conference of the Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria (AESON).

AESON a body of extension experts in the country is established as a not-for-profit organization to promote the development of agricultural extension profession, its research and practice in the country for the benefit of all stakeholders in the nation’s agriculture.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the management of Media Trust Limited-publishers of the Daily Trust titles Monday in Abuja, the Chairman of the local organizing committee, Associate Professor Edwin E Idu, said this was the first time in 24 years that the society was holding its conference in Abuja.

“Since 1994, AESON Congress has been providing the needed platform that linked stakeholders to share information and create synergies to support the agricultural sector; to increase farmer/processor income; economic growth of the agric value chain and prioritizing and stimulating interventions to increase competitiveness. AESON consolidates on the achievements of its congress through the publishing of journals, proceedings, and advocacy on practical steps to increase production volume, improving quality and developing a new market for the rural smallholder farmers,” Professor Idu said.

The 3-day conference, which holds from 7th to 10th April at the Raw Material Research and Development Council (RMRDC), is expected to gather extension professionals from within and outside Nigeria to examine current issues and trends in extension delivery systems in the country with the view to strengthening the system.
