The three-day event which kicked off on Tuesday in the FCT, Abuja, also saw top government personalities, as well as notable figures from the Nigerian movie industry in attendance.
Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala gave a keynote speech on the government’s support to the creative industry and the President’s aim to create job opportunities.
Executive Producer of AMAA, Peace Fiberesima and Production Designer, Pat Nebo were presented the BOBTV Honours awards by popular novelist and writer, Dr. Kaine Agary in recognition of their service to the Nigerian creative industry. Ace actress, producer and director, Joke Silva was also honoured.
Receiving his award, Pat Nebo said, “the movie industry has improved to an extent that has shocked me and I am very pleased with the platform that BOBTV has created. The industry is all we have so we have to put in our best in order to meet international standards.”
Recipient, Peace Fiberesima expressed her appreciation advising other directors, producers and aspiring filmmakers to keep doing what they know how to do best. “My parents did not accept the fact that I wanted to do film so I did what they wanted before I went back to my original dreams. We all have a passion for the creative industry so let us all work towards making what we believe in a reality.”
Guests were treated to a cocktail as they saw a special screening of Chris Ihidero’s short film on rape, “Big Daddy”. The Premiere of “Adesuwa” by Lancelot Imasuen Oduwa will also hold on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. There will also films on women trafficking by Dr. Joy Emordi as well as films from popular filmmakers from Liberia, Mali and Ghana.
Each day of the Expo featured different activities including seminars, an autograph session with the cast of MNET’s Tinsel, workshops, exhibitions, and university challenges. The event came to a close on Thursday.
