The 14th Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) which opened last Monday ended yesterday.  The event held at the Silverbird Cinemas, Abuja, and brought together Nollywood and other stakeholders in the industry in Nigeria and beyond as well as members of the diplomatic corps. 

Speaking on the theme of this year’s edition – Film as a tool for national security and patriotism – AIFF’s new Festival Director Mrs. Temitope Duker, said it reflects the mood of the nation at the moment.

She added that, there is need for filmmakers to begin to imbibe the notion of patriotism in their films. This she said can only be achieved by their understanding that film plays a potent role in the patriotism and security of any nation.

The weeklong fiesta which opened with a movie by Tunji Bamishigbin entitled ‘The Verdict,’ featured a masterclass, fashion runway which displayed contemporary designs from five fashion houses and workshops on commercial film production for independent filmmakers. There was also a part of the festival – American Film Showcase – which featured five documentaries from the United States, including the ‘IF PROJECT’ by Katrin Hoffman who facilitated the masterclass.

It ended with an award night where winning movies of the 3, 786 entered for the fifteen competitive categories received awards.
