Abuja–Kaduna highway traffic: FRSC asks motorists to use Kachia-Bwari route

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists travelling on the Abuja–Kaduna Highway to use the Kachia–Bwari alternative route following heavy traffic congestion along the corridor ahead of the Eid el-Kabir celebrations.

In a statement issued in Kaduna, the corps attributed the gridlock to increased festive travel, ongoing road construction activities and recent rainfall, which have slowed vehicular movement on the highway.

The Kaduna Sector Commander, Corps Commander Andrew Longkam, said the Nasarawa Azara stretch between Katari and Jere towns remains the most affected section, with traffic moving slowly and motorists experiencing significant delays.

Longkam also blamed the congestion on poor driving habits by some road users, including impatience and failure to observe lane discipline.

To manage the situation, the FRSC said it had deployed additional personnel to the affected areas and was working with the Nigerian Army and other stakeholders to control traffic flow.

Despite the intervention, the agency noted that traffic remains heavy and urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and obey road safety regulations.

The corps advised motorists travelling from Kaduna to Abuja to take the Kachia–Maraban Kubacha–Jere–Bwari–Dutse route, while those travelling from Abuja to Kaduna were encouraged to use the same route in reverse.

The FRSC also warned against dangerous overtaking and one-way driving, stressing the need for motorists to maintain lane discipline and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys.

It further urged drivers to avoid night travel where possible, observe speed limits and comply with all traffic regulations.

The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads, smoother traffic flow and reduced accidents during the festive period and beyond.
