Officers of the FCT Fire Service and members of the African Centre for Leadership Training School, popularly known as Centre LSD, have sensitised market women in Abuja on how to put out fire in case of any incident.

The officers, led by Mr Dennis Asande Asande, a Deputy Superintendent of Fire; and Mrs Tolani Adeniran of Group 3 of the centre, in interviews with City & Crime after a series of demonstrations, told the market women about the importance of learning and getting knowledge on how to put out fire during emergencies.

Asande, a firefighting expert, who led the team to the Utako Market at weekend, noted that it was imperative for every household to have fire extinguishers and fire termination blankets in their kitchens, as well as their shops or offices in case of any emergency.

He said, “My advice for the Nigerian populace is that everyone that has a building should have fire equipment in that building because fire does not give a message before it comes.

“When fire comes and you don’t have fire extinguishers or any means of putting it out, it is going to be disastrous because you are likely going to be helpless.”

On her part, Mrs Adeniran said, “We are set 21 of the Centre LSD. We decided to pick this viable project to work on because of the fire incidents happening around, especially in markets. We believe that this project will benefit the Nigerian populace, especially the market women.’’
