A mob has set a suspected motorcycle thief ablaze near the Nomadic school in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
A witness, simply identified as Jacob, said the incident happened when a man was suspected to have stolen a motorcycle in the area.
He said the suspect targeted the owner, who parked his motorcycle and went into a mosque to pray, saying when the owner returned, his motorcycle had been stolen.
“He raised an alarm immediately and some cyclists went after the suspect and apprehended him at a nomadic school in the area,” he said.
He said after the suspect was apprehended, a mob, mainly commercial cyclists, came with sticks and other heavy objects and started hitting the suspect until he died, adding that they immediately set his corpse ablaze.
The Etsu of Kwali, Alhaji Shaban Audu Nizazo (III), confirmed the incident and condemned the act of the mob, which he described as jungle justice.
He said he expected that suspects would be handed over to security agents to obtain relevant information that would lead to the arrest of other criminals.
The spokesman of the FCT police command, ASP Daniel Y Ndiparya, was yet to reply to a text message sent to him on the incident up till the time of filing this report yesterday evening.
