Abuja has been designated as the official host city of the Zuma Film Festival.

 The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the film festival would be jointly hosted in Abuja by them.

The 2022 edition of the film festival will hold from April 2 to 9.

The festival debuted in 1992 as the National Film Festival but was changed to Zuma Film Festival in 2005. The latest name was derived from the Zuma Rock, a landmark on the outskirts of Nigeria’s capital city.

NFC’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Chidia Maduekwe, reiterated the commitment of the corporation to use the Zuma Film Festival to stimulate multi-layers of investment inflow into the Nigerian creative sector. 

He said the benefits of the festival included cultural and film tourism, economic promotion and empowerment for creative minds and service providers.

The Permanent Secretary of the FCT, Olusade Adesola, signed the MoU on behalf of the FCTA, while Dr Maduekwe signed on behalf of NFC.
