Abuja set to host ”Summer of Expressions”

Summer of Expression a social-emotional building program for young adults aimed at enabling them become better citizens through art and awareness of self and the immediate surroundings is set to hold this August in Abuja.

The organizer of the event which is in it second edition, Valentine Onyeka Ogunaka, said the event which has to do mentoring and knowledge sharing also involves “special creative writing, poetry, social media and activism classes."

Valentine a spoken word artist who is popularly known as Brainbox, said the Youth camp which will last for three days in the last week of August at Millennium park, will be facilitated by established writers, poets and spoken words artist from Words Rhymes and Rhythm (WRR), Network of University Legal Aid Institutions ( NULAI – Amber Alert for Social Justice), Decipher Solutions (Organizers of the FCT spelling bee), and Sevhage Publishers.

He said "After the three day meeting participants will learn to rise above negative circumstances and make the best choices for leading purposeful lives."

He added that Summer of Expressions is targeted at young adults between the ages of 15 to 25.

On how he started it, valentine said "It was birthed in Zaria. I started it because I had difficulties reacting to the life’s vicissitudes as a teenager; I learned to channel my frustration when I tapped into the power of self-expression through writing and thus developing a voice of my own."
