Property worth over N400 million were burnt down following a fire outbreak that gutted some sections of the popular Zuba Motor Spare Parts Market in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

Mr Azuka Chidiebere, whose shop was burnt down, said he was at home around 8pm on Saturday when he received a call that fire had broken out in the market.

He said he rushed to the market and discovered his shop, filled with spare parts, alongside other shops, engulfed with fire.

He said, “In fact, I just returned from the market in Lagos and offloaded my goods on Friday when the fire gutted my shop on Saturday night. Before I could get to my shop, fire had already razed down the shop.”

He added that spare parts worth N115m were lost in his shop alone, even as he called on the government to come to his aid.

The Chairman of the market, Mr Chika Okeke, while reacting over the fire incident during an interview with our reporter, said the fire broke out on Saturday around 8pm and destroyed goods worth over N400m.

He said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, adding that the intervention of fire service men from Kubwa put out the fire.

He further said, “Although, before the arrival of the fire fighters from Kubwa, valuable goods had already been consumed by the fire. We thank God that it didn’t escalate to the main buildings.”
