Abuja students evacuate refuse in Gwarimpa community

As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), students of Hillside School, at the weekend, evacuated a refuse dump at Alungu-Lungu community in Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja.

The sanitation and evacuation exercise was organised by the students’ council of the institution.

Addressing journalists shortly after concluding the exercise, the President of the council, Maryam Naseer Hassan, said, “In line with fighting climate change, we decided to clear this dump site located near a primary school because it had been constituting health hazards to people living in the area, especially the primary pupils.”

She said the environment was not conducive for people to live, not to talk about learning, and advised other schools to participate in such community service.

Also speaking, the Village Head of Alungu-Lungu, Chief Zanya Zakka, while appreciating the school’s management, urged members of the community to always clean their environment.

The Head of Education at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Sheriff Aminu, commended the school for the initiative, saying, “We always partner with institutions or organisations that are after the cleanliness of the environment – free from every hazard, free from diseases, and to ensure that every environment is conducive for learning.”
