According to the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy, the film will show  series   in commemoration of the Women History Month with theme as Women’s Education – Women Empowerment.  “Our decision on the four contemporary films for the month was based on what we have, and what people will enjoy. It is the first time we are running a film festival every Friday since February 2012 with huge success we  hope to make it an annual outing.”

The event which opened to the public last Friday featured ‘A Woman Called Moses’, a movie based on Marcy Heidish’s novel stars ‘Roots’, Cicely Tyson.  Yesterday, ‘Unbought and Unbossed’, a documentary on Brooklyn-based Congresswoman Shirley’s Chisholm’s 1972 presidential bid directed by Shola Lynch and starring Shirley Chisholm and Walter Cronkite was shown.

On March 16, ‘Sisters of Selma: Bearing Witness for Change’ a movie set in 1965 inAlabama, telling the story of Catholic nuns who spearhead Dr. Martin Luther King’s campaign in Selma for African American voting rights will be viewed. To show on March 23 is ‘Mahalia Jackson: The Power and The Glory’, a documentary that examines the life and music of the acclaimed world’s greatest gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson. Each film show is followed by a short discussion on lessons learnt.
