The chairman of the Secondary Education Board (SEB) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Musa Yahaya Muhammad, has disclosed that the FCT minister has approved the establishment of 11 new senior secondary schools across the six area councils.

Muhammad, while talking with Aso Chronicle on Sunday, said the new secondary schools, which are to come on stream this week, are in response to the growing population of the territory.

The SEB chairman gave the names of the new schools as GSS Orozo, GSS Kagini and GSS Wuye, in AMAC; GSS Ibwa in Gwagwalada Area Council, and GSS Kwaita in Kwali Area Council.

Others are GSS Gui, GSS Kiyi and GSS Geidna in Kuje Area Council; GSS Alu and GSS Mawogi in Abaji Area Council; and GSS Ushafa in Bwari Area Council.

He said the new schools, which are in various rural communities, were approved following advice from experts.

“Besides, between 2015 and 2020, there was a Strategic Education Sector Plan which required that the FCT must have a certain number of secondary schools to meet up with the growing population and this was what the minister graciously considered before giving his approval,’’ he said.

He said some structures put in place by the SDGs programme across the rural communities of the six area councils, in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), would be used for the students.

The SEB chairman said with the new schools, over 25,000 students would be taken off the streets, adding that security measures have been put in place for the safety of both students and staff of the schools.
