The Abuja Writers’ Forum (AWF) is set to host Safiya Ismaila Yero, author of ‘Naja,’ for its August Guest Writer Session.
The event is scheduled to take place on August 31 in Abuja, where Yero will read from her current novel, ‘Naja,’ described as “a coming of age novel chronicling what it is to be young, female and powerless in patriarchal northern Nigeria.”
Also, High Chief Peter Ameh, chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), will feature in the ‘Take Five’ segment and talk about the books that have shaped his life.
Yero’s previous novel is ‘When There is Life’ (2013). Two of her short stories and a poem appeared in the recently published Boko Haram Anthology ‘The Markas’ (Malthouse Press, 2019).
The Guest Writer Session, which is open to the public, is an initiative of AWF, and also features live music and a raffle-draw for books. The forum also runs a weekly critique session and a regular Creative Writing Workshop series.
