Even the heavy down poor that seized several parts of the city that night could not stop the human surge that converged on the prestigious International Women Development Centre in the Central Business District of Abuja.
The event tagged Youth for Christ attracted entertainment personalities like Francis Duru, Jerry Sax, John Joseph, Kingsley Ike, Samsong and comic actors like Enenche da Comedian, Mc Ode and a host of other Lagos-based Christian artists.
According to one of the organisers of programmes, Mr John Daraba, the event was put together by the Youth for Christ Ministry to impact godly attributes in the younger generation especially those that reside in Abuja.
He said events in the past few weeks in the nation’s history pointed to the fact that youths have a massive role to play in the socio-political and economic welfare of the country and should thus be carried along in the transformation process in the country.
“We are here to put the devil to shame. We want to bring all youths in Nigeria under a single canopy where we can worship God in spirit and in truth. You go to clubs and you see youths wasting away. You go to other dark spots and our youths are wasting away their potentials. But we aim at bringing Christian youths together so we can help them to positively channel their energy. Our vision is to create a situation where whenever we are worshiping God in Abuja, it is equally taking place in all the 36 states of the federation. We are essentially a youth ministry,” Daraba stated.
He added that the youth ministry was also involved in philanthropic activities such as visits to hospitals, orphanages and prisons.
“We have a skills acquisition and development centre where we also train youths and we don’t charge gate fees for any of our youth programmes,” he proudly informed.
Events of the night included musical interludes from the Lagos-based artists and their FCT counterparts.
The youthful gathering was serially rocked by comic presentations by the duo of Ode and Enenche.
Duru also had a heart-to-heart talk with the youth based on Jeremiah 11, 33-44 wherein he made an altar call where a huge number of youths came forward to give their lives to Christ.
The sermon of the night was given by the president of the ministry, Dr Mike Allison who congratulated the youth for their peaceful attitude during the April general elections the country.
According to the elderly president, the solution to restiveness amongst the youth can only be found in the arms of God. Drawing from Matthew 24:21-22, he urged youths to depend on the Almighty for all their earthly challenges rather than their strength.
He said, “The theme of this program is aimed at urging you to look to God for solutions to your peculiar problems. He will not come down to address your challenges. But He will send His word which is able to solve all your problems…”
