Workers under  the   auspices   of  the National  Association  of   Academic Technologists   (NAAT)   have   berated   the   federal   government   over   its inability to pay arrears of the new minimum wage.

They lament that government has failed to pay the arrears peacefully as agreed despite assurances by the Minister of Finance and Budget, Zainab     Ahmad, that payment would be made not later than December 31, 2019.

The union, in a statement signed by Dr. Mafuyai Godwin Magit, NAAT Head   of   Public   Relations,   explained   that   it   enrolled   into   the   Integrated Payroll Personal Information System in good faith, adding that it complied with   the   government’s   directives.   The   union   however,   noted   that government has not been consistent in its obligations on salaries, checkup     dues,   and   other   obligatory   deductions   as   it   concerned   academic technologists in universities.

“It   is   on   this   premise   that   the   union   wishes   to   implore   the   federal government   to   always   keep   to   agreements   made   with   unions   to   avoid unnecessary industrial unrest in the educational institutions,” it said.
