The summit attended by 2000 corps members in Lagos featured presentations on enhancing graduates employability status.
Speaking at the programme, the Country Head, ACCA Nigeria Mrs. Toyin Ademola lamented poor general attitude of Nigerian graduates to life as part of factors responsible for their inability to get jobs.
She said “one of the key things noticed is that people are not getting jobs not because there aren’t jobs but because people are unemployable. There is a difference between somebody being unemployable and there are no jobs. When we say people are not unemployable, it’s not because they don’t have degrees but lack knowledge about how to write CVS, how to dress for interviews and how to even talk during interview. These are what people don’t have. We also find out that when you talk to employers they complain of not having good enough staff and they see graduates every day and say they can’t employ them.”
She explained that the summit is ACCA’s contribution to the NYSC entrepreneurship program, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED).
