Accra to Host Int’l Pan-African Conference Marking 80 Years Since 1945 Manchester Congress

The Pan-African Progressive Front (PPF) has announced plans to hold an international conference in Accra, Ghana, from October 20–21, 2025, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the historic 5th Pan-African Congress held in Manchester in 1945.

Dubbed Manchester 2.0, the two-day event will bring together political leaders, scholars, activists, and representatives of more than 50 Pan-African organizations from across Africa and the diaspora to discuss the continent’s economic, political, and developmental future.

According to a statement by Princess Yanney, PPF Media Manager, the conference will explore key themes including reparations, the dangers of neocolonial dependence, economic integration, resource management, and Africa’s role in an evolving multipolar world.

The event will be opened by Ghana’s President John Mahama, with Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré and Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel expected as guests of honour.

The conference aims to produce a new Accra Declaration—a document outlining shared commitments and practical steps for advancing Africa’s unity, economic sovereignty, and self-reliance.

Organizers say the conference will foster dialogue between young Africans and veteran Pan-Africanists, cultural figures, economists, and political leaders to generate actionable ideas for sustainable development.

Princess Yanney noted that the 1945 Manchester Congress laid the groundwork for Africa’s political liberation, while the 2025 Accra conference seeks to inspire a new generation to pursue economic independence, regional integration, and social justice.

“The 1945 Congress declared that the peoples of Africa were determined to be free,” she said. “In 2025, Accra will declare that Africa is determined not just to be free, but to be united, sovereign, and just.”
