The police yesterday told an Ejigbo, Lagos, chief magistrate court how a 27-year-old man, Dikachi Onyeze, organised the vandalisation of some vehicles parked inside the Ashamu police station, Bucknor Estate, Ejigbo, Lagos, even when he was in detention at the same station.

The police said that the accused, together with some accomplices, also stole some phones before escaping from police custody, adding that though other members of the gang escaped, the police were able to re-arrest Onyeze.

The prosecutor, Superintendent of Police Kenneth Asibor, told the court, “Among vehicles vandalized is a Toyota Camry car registration number LSR 412 AC. The accused and his gang made away with the car’s brain box worth thousands of naira. The car belonged to one woman, Aderieje Rita.”

The police, however, did not give the names of other members of the gang who successfully fled with some valuables.

Onyeze, who is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and breaking & entry, however pleaded not guilty.

Following the not-guilty plea, Asibor asked the court for a date for trial.

The presiding magistrate, Mr T.O. Shomade, granted Onyeze bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail conditions.

Mr Shomade adjourned the case till October 29, 2018.
