Speaking when he commissioned the AMA health consults office at Kado recently, established by three retired directors of the NHIS, Thomas noted that such innovation will help the scheme achieve its mandate faster if it has such experienced hands to work with.
“This is something of interest to NHIS, and I believe that it should be something to the nation, because for the first time we are having a team that is grown from, the core of NHIS retiring to set up something that will be of immense benefit to the health insurance world.
“This simply means that they retired before they got tired, there is no way to quantify wisdom, it comes with age and experience, and it comes with knowledge  and it comes with encounter in life,” he said.
Earlier the Managing Director of AMA, Abdulsalam Bala said that the idea for establishing the organization became necessary due to the dearth in the attention paid to the development of health care services through scientific approaches.
According to him AMA would fill the gap in providing expertise in areas of health financing, research, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, risk management among others.
Meanwhile the other two directors in the company Dr Mustapha Kabir and Dr Thomas Adeoye said that their vision is to be a lead promoter for universal health coverage through appropriate knowledge sharing of theories and best practices.
They opined that they would promote the improvement of the Nigerian health care system through publications in international journals in collaboration with renowned scholars.
“We also intend to drive the process of clinical governance, decentralization, education and prioritization in the delivery of quality care,” they said.
