ACReSAL commissions toilets, hands over 14 tricycles in FCT communities

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has commissioned a waste management facility (toilets) in Wako community and handed over 14 tricycles to support waste collection in Sheda, both located in Kwali Area Council, FCT.

The Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Abdullahi Ango, urged the beneficiaries to utilize the facilities to boost economic activities in their areas.

He said the project is not limited only to the Kwali Area Council but covers all six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.

Ango added that the toilets and the tricycles will improve sanitation and help to curb disease outbreaks.

According to him, the Community Interest Groups (CIGs) that benefited were selected based on a needs assessment and their continued activities in their respective areas.

The Mandate Secretary, who is also the Chairman of the ACReSAL Project Committee, revealed that more special projects are underway for some councils.

Mrs. Caroline Opara, the FCT ACReSAL Project Coordinator, said the scheme was designed to address community challenges under the new initiative and put an end to open defecation.

Responding, the Etsu Wako, Abdulazeez Usman, commended ACReSAL and the FCT Administration for considering rural dwellers, saying the initiative is a thing of joy.

The representative of the National Project Coordinator, Amina Mustapha, said the project will improve the healthy environment across the FCT.
