The acting Director Sports in the FCT, Mr. Luka Istifanus, has opened his doors to the newly elected Executive Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), FCT chapter.

In a statement released yesterday, the director congratulated the sports writers on the successful conduct of their elections which produced Comrade Bumi Haruna as chairman.

Istifanus said the successful conduct of the elections has shown the capability of the association to conduct its affairs in an orderly and mature manner as obtained in all respectable professional bodies.

He, furthermore, enjoined the new EXCO to work in partnership with relevant governmental and non-governmental organs to ensure the uplifting of sports not only in the FCT but in Nigeria at large.

He said “The doors of the FCT Sports Department are always open. We are ever ready to partner with the association in bringing about meaningful development in sports in the FCT.”

It will be recalled that another election which was held at Hotel Reno in Katampe district of Abuja returned Comrade Ndubueze Chidoka as chairman of the FCT SWAN.

However, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT chapter has since endorsed the election that produced Haruna as FCT SWAN chairman.
