The Acting Chairman of Shira Local Government Council in Bauchi State, Alhaji Wali Adamu, has died just days before a scheduled by-election in the local government area.

Adamu, who was also the leader of the council’s legislative arm, passed away on Sunday at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, following a brief illness.

His death comes ahead of a by-election scheduled for May 24, 2025, by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) to fill the positions of council chairman and deputy chairman, which became vacant following their impeachment.

It will be recalled that on March 2, 2025, councillors of the Shira Local Government Council, led by Adamu as acting chairman, impeached the former chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Beli, and his deputy, Adamu Bamaraya, over allegations of mismanagement of public funds and poor leadership.

Reacting to the news of Adamu’s passing, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed deep sorrow and described the late acting chairman as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to the development of Shira LGA and Bauchi State would be remembered.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Katagum Emirate Council, and the people of the state.

“Bauchi State Government regrets to announce the sudden death of Alhaji Wali Adamu (Chigarin Tumfafi), the Acting Chairman of Shira Local Government Council. He passed away today at the Federal Medical Centre, Azare following a brief illness,” the statement read.

The government also called on sympathisers and well-wishers to keep the bereaved family in their prayers during this difficult time.
