We have a passion for the lost souls. We discovered over the years that many youths are not really paying attention to the Good News message of the faith and this became a source of worry to many of us.
If you look at the world today, you will find out that the process of evangelism is becoming monotonous and it is not as effective as it is supposed to be. So as a result of this, we set up the drama unit so that we can do the work of evangelism through the medium of drama. The result has been awesome.
Now, through our acting, we have been able to establish the message of salvation more effectively in the minds of people rather than when you simply preach it. The reason as I said earlier is the passion for the lost souls.
And how long has the ministry been in existence?
By God’s grace, we have been performing on stage for over seven years now. What amazes one is the fact that the unit is made up of career professionals from different fields of human endeavour and also the fact that we act like professionals.
How were you able to bring such diverse minds together under the same umbrella?
It is simply divine inspiration backed by his grace. With me, it would have been impossible to gather these minds but with God all things are possible.
Secondly, these are people that have passion for the things of God. They want to serve God and they go all out to do just that. They know that it is not everybody that can mount the pulpit to preach so they use their talents to preach the gospel. Gathering them together was not easy but God brought us together through our love for the things of God. They are also very humble in disposition so they do not mind jettisoning their pride for the work of God. God elevates the humble but demotes the conceited says the bible. We do have conflicts but these are quickly resolved in the interest of our higher calling.
What challenges do you see for gospel drama in Nigeria today?
There are a lot of them. For instance, we are not being paid to do what we do. What we do is for the love of God. But because there is really no money there, many youths with good talents have decided to use their gifts for other things rather than for the service of God.
Therefore, they would rather go into the secular world to use their skills to make good money. They do not share our zeal. Then for those who are even in the church who have these talents and want to serve, the challenge of time is there for them to surmount. Most of them have secular jobs that take up chunk of their time and thus they have no time to devote for rehearsals.
Another factor is that many churches have not yet seen the importance of gospel drama. Why am I saying this? Many see gospel drama as entertainment. Many of them, even pastors do not see it as a ministry yet. And this poses a major challenge to gospel drama. But we are still evolving and we will get there someday by God’s grace.
What are your plans? Can you someday go beyond the confines of Abuja in your ministrations?
It is God that will announce us in due time when it pleases Him to do so. And we believe that will be soon. We will not remain on stage. In a couple of years, we will get there. We are working on a couple of scripts which by God’s grace when they are completed, will lead to major video productions that we expect will shake the nation, indeed the world. We intend to go beyond the FCT like you stated but we are taking our time. We are also working on a weekly television drama series which will hit the air very soon. It is a long term project and it is capital intensive but we will succeed.
In the meantime we are continuing with our regular programs, Basket of Praise which has continued to bless many lives.
