ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has tasked government at all levels to invest in human capital by providing the needs of the youths who are the future leaders.

Country Director of AAN Mrs. Ene Obi made the call at the closing ceremony of a one-week  youth peace camp  on the prevention of violent extremism held at Government Girls College, Wamba in Wamba Local Government  Area of Nasarawa State.

According to her, there was need to invest in human capital by giving scholarships to the youths who cannot afford their tuition, to enable them become useful in the society.

She said that the economy of Nigeria can come alive if the government invested in human capital, created employment opportunities as well as revived the educational system of the country.

The country director maintained that her organisation was doing its best in ensuring that violence was eradicated from communities, and peace is built through economic empowerment of the youths and women.

Mrs. Ene Obi said “we are building peace through economic empowerment and having the youths as peace ambassadors; we are hopeful that peace will return to communities.”

She charged the youths to be agents of peace and not allow themselves to be used by selfish politicians to perpetuate crime in their various communities.

Mrs. Obi appreciated the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education for releasing school facilities for the programme and urged them to redouble effort for the development of the state.

In his remark, the Executive Director of Global Peace Development (GPD), Mr. Ebruke Esike, said they are in partnership with AAN and Beacon Youth Initiative (BYI) with funding from Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) in engaging youth to work together and promote peace in their communities.

“The intention of the project is to engage youths to act together as ambassadors of peace in line with the International Day Of Peace,” he said.
