Following the suspension of the nationwide industrial strike organised by National Union of Electricity Employee (NUEE), the electricity workers have resumed duties at the headquarters of Jos Electricity Distribution (JED), company.
A correspondent who visited JED’s head office in Jos reports that activities have fully resumed with workers and customers seen moving in and out.
The company was on Wednesday shut down by NUEE to protest their anger on the failure of the federal government to fulfil their demands which according to it was signed long time ago.
In a telephone interview with the national vice president, Musa Ayiga, on why workers resumed duties on Thursday morning one day after the commencement of the strike, said workers were asked to resume duties following an established discussion currently going on between the FG and the union.
in a circular signed by the general secretary of NUEE, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and sent to Daily Trust on Thursday by the vice president, reads, “Following the agreement reached between NUEE and representatives of Government this morning, on all the issues in contention, the Union wishes to suspend the industrial action it embarked upon to press home these demands.
Consequently, members are urged to return to their duty posts while we monitor the implementation of these agreements. We would not hesitate to resume action if the agreements are not implemented,” the circular added.
