The Adamawa State Government has approved the establishment of a zonal office of the Nigeria Press Council (NPC) in the state.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Iliya James, announced the approval, describing it as part of the government’s commitment to strengthening information management, promoting press freedom, and deepening collaboration with the media.

He reaffirmed that the Ministry of Information and Strategy remains dedicated to ensuring transparent and effective dissemination of government policies and programmes to enhance public trust.

Earlier, the Director of the Nigeria Press Council, Mrs. Chinyere Facah, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner, during which she commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for approving the office space. She said the project aligns with a national initiative championed by Vice President Kashim Shettima to expand the Council’s reach across the federation.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Solomon Kumangar, also lauded the development, noting that the Fintiri administration has consistently strengthened media institutions and adopted modern communication methods to enhance government-media relations.

The visit marks a key step toward establishing the NPC’s zonal office in Adamawa, aimed at promoting a free, responsible, and professional press in the region.
