But penultimate week, and less than a week after the defection of the entire 25 members of the House from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the cordial relationship between Governor Nyako and the legislators nosedived considerably. This was because of the ultimatum given to the governor to pay the civil servants their two-month salaries. Nyako reportedly refused to pay the salaries, saying the strike embarked upon by civil servants had been prolonged.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) ordered its members in the state to press for the full implementation of the minimum wage, as well as reject pay cut in the salaries of civil servants from grade levels 07 and above for the month of May, 2014. The sudden change in the relationship between the two organs of government has amazed a lot of people in the state. It is, however, believed in certain quarters that the presidency is bent on removing the governor. Some people even accuse the legislators of yielding to monetary inducement to carry out this plan, hence the ultimatum on the salaries of civil servants.
As if to confirm the above allegation, leadership of the PDP in the state, led by Chief Joel Madaki, has commended the ultimatum given to the governor, saying it was a bold step by members of the House.  Madaki said though civil servants constituted only 20 per cent of the population in the state, they are the backbone of development in any society.
 Some opinion leaders are of the view that the legislators may have decided to betray.
the governor because executive crumbs are no longer falling on their tables while others believe that they are simply acting the script of the federal government.  
To have a soft landing in 2015, the lawmakers and whoever is behind their action clearly understand the importance of civil servants. Their salaries should therefore be paid without delay.  To do otherwise will definitely be counter-productive.
