Adamawa community decries bad road
A trader, Moses Suetana, said transporters charged exorbitant fares due to the dilapidated condition of the road, saying the situation is making life difficult for the people.
Ga’anda community in Gombi Local Government Area in Adamawa State have decried the deplorable condition of 36.3 kilometre Gombi-Gaanda-Fotta Road linking villages with Gombi town and Borno State.
Residents interviewed by our reporter pointed out the economic importance of the road on which agrarian communities depend for transporting farm produce and livestock to markets in the area and beyond.
A trader, Moses Suetana, said transporters charged exorbitant fares due to the dilapidated condition of the road, saying the situation is making life difficult for the people.
Calling on the government to make life easier for residents of the area by rehabilitating the road, Suetana noted that prices of commodities would fall as soon as the road is fixed.
“For now we cannot transport bottled soft drinks as they would break into pieces, we also pay transport fare on each bag of sachet water from Gombi to Ga’anda”, lamented another trader, Lami Elijah.
A commercial driver, Edward Festus said motorist suffered untold hardship as vehicles plying the road often broke down and could not last for more than two years.
A cattle dealer and Fulani leader, Buba Lamido said the high cost of transportation along the road was affecting his business as he often incurs losses.
Calling for immediate action to end the suffering of the local populace, the representative of the village head of Ga’anda, Sanda Isa said villages were usually cut off during the rainy season.
“Many places are usually cut off during the rainy season, but we mobilise ourselves and fill with stones to make it motorable”.
