Adamawa State Government has declared state of emergency on basic education and also established two Teachers’ colleges to resuscitate the sector.

The Information Commissioner, Ahmad Sajoh disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

According to him, the emergency measure would see the establishment of two Teachers’ colleges, improved welfare for teachers as well as increased funding for schools.

Sajoh noted that the proposed teachers colleges would help government to professionalize education at the lower level, adding that some retired teachers would be engaged to ensure quality manpower.

He therefore assured teachers in the state of payment of two months salary arrears within a week.

"As part of the teachers day celebration, Adamawa government has ordered the payment of two month outstanding salaries to teachers in the state before the end of this week", he stated.

Daily Trust findings indicated that primary school teachers in the state were owed five months salary arrears and three years leave grant.
